Maine Coon Cat Nation has been online for more than a decade, but it's always been more than a website. It's a growing collection of stories, advice, authentic experiences, and beautiful cats - all centered on one breed we never get tired of talking about.

This site is run by, Carrie Profenno - longtime cat person, Maine Coon owner, and the one behind the scenes organizing and writing everything you see here.

While I'm a bit on the private side (and you won't find a big personal story here), I've spent years building a resource that reflects what people really want to know about this amazing breed.

Every page you visit on MCCN is built with care, shaped by experience, and often supported by our readers - through stories, quotes, and photos that reflect the everyday joy (and chaos) of life with a Maine Coon.

Whether you'ree here to research, smile, or see if your cat is "part Coonie," you're in the right place. I'm glad you found us.

Maine Coon Rescue is a nationwide 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing Maine Coon and Maine Coon mix cats. We are a network of volunteers who share one love: our beloved Maine Coons. We assist in assuring that these cats are placed in carefully screened forever homes where they will spend the rest of their lives being spoiled as they deserve.

Maine Coon Haven Rescue was founded in the spring of 2004 and has grown to be one of the largest and most respected animal welfare groups in the USA. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run organization devoted to finding loving new homes for unwanted, homeless cats and kittens. Maine Coon Haven Rescue volunteers place over 300 Maine Coons into homes every year. Since we began, we have rescued and placed over 7000 cats (and counting!) into loving homes.

The Maine Coon is a large domesticated cat breed. One of the oldest natural breeds in North America, the breed originated in the U.S. state of Maine, where it is the official state cat.

The Maine Coon is a large and social cat, commonly referred to as "the gentle giant." The Maine Coon is predominantly known for its size and dense coat of fur which helps it survive in the harsh climate of Maine. The Maine Coon is often cited as having "dog-like" characteristics.
